Swaddling as a Healing Practice

safety to heal

What is Swaddling?

Swaddling is beautiful in it’s simplicity.

I swaddle a person by wrapping them tightly in a bed sheet, just like you would swaddle a baby. I then use any combination of soothing sensory tools including a weighted blanket, eye mask, soundscapes, and aromatherapy.

The wrapped sheet and weighted blanket signal to the body that it is safe to activate the parasympathetic, moving you out of “fight or flight” response and into “rest and digest” mode.

How is it Healing?

Swaddling is healing first and foremost because it creates an experience of safety, a safety you haven’t felt since you were in the womb.

Swaddling feels like a giant, full body hug.

Within this safe space and supported by the “hug” of the swaddle, your body and mind can surrender to the present moment for your highest good.

From here the session becomes as unique as you are. You might like to:

  • use the time as a respite from sensory overload, safe in your very own cocoon.

Then there’s this certain magic that happens in a Swaddling session even I find hard to explain. I feel it in the moment you ask for what you need. You might need an adjustment to the blanket, a tissue for your tears, a foot massage. Whatever it is, I’m proud of you for asking! That moment is sacred to me. It’s not easy to voice your needs and experience them being met in daily life; I am honored you feel safe to do so here.

Who is Becca?

Hi! I’m Becca. Swaddling is a creation of my own design. Inspired by my work as a nanny for babies and young children as well as my own need to feel safety and calm in my body.

My work began with Yoga, I am a 200hr RYT. While teaching, I noticed how hard Shavasana (corpse pose) was for people. I wanted to help them relax! I moved my yoga practice to focus on rest and relaxation, studying restorative yoga and Yoga Nidra (guided meditation).

Is Swaddling Right for Me?

Are you curious about it?

Do you feel overwhelmed by day to day life?

Is it hard for you to relax at home?

Do the sights, sounds, smells, and constant rush of New York City drain you?

Are you working with or want to heal your inner child?

Do you long for touch that feels safe and nurturing?

Are you interested in cultivating a deeper relationship with yourself?

If you answered yes to one or more question above, then Swaddling is definitely for you!

What to Expect

A session will begin with a check in during which we can discuss how you’re feeling, what you would like to use during the swaddling, and set an intention for the experience.

When you’re ready, I will wrap you into the swaddle. You will stay in the swaddle for as long as you are comfortable and time allows, usually about 2/3 of the session.

To close the session, I will gently and slowly unwrap the swaddle. We will then have a few minutes to talk again during which you can share whatever you need to. Sessions usually end with many smiles and possibly a hug.

I recommend 2 hours for your first session. This will allow enough time for your body to acclimate to the experience, and to have slow and safe transitions in and out.

What People Have to Say

“Subtle but powerful.”

“Time to be in my body".”

“Becca’s knowledge and expertise in swaddling allowed me to fully drop into my experience with an immediate sense of safety and trust.  From the moment I walked into the room, I knew I would be taken care of. Each mindful detail; from chatting a little before the swaddling began to raising the volume during a song on my playlist, helped me to surrender to this very special portal to healing.”
