Swaddled Shavasana

While it's not a mainstream practice, a Swaddled Shavasana calls upon the ancient wisdom of the fifth limb of yoga, Pratyahara, sense withdrawal. Pratyahara teaches us that it is important to rest deeply while enjoying a clear mind which requires us to detach from the external world.

In our modern time, this practice is extremely difficult. So difficult many don’t even try. That’s why I created the Swaddled Shavasana.

I’m always blown away by the signifanct healing and growth my clients experience in a relatively short amount of time with this practice.

Why you might enjoy the experience:

Deep Touch Pressure: The firm, gentle wrap and a weighted blanket provide deep touch pressure. This type of stimulation can have a calming effect on the nervous system, reducing feelings of anxiety and promoting relaxation by releasing feel-good chemicals in the brain. It's like a gentle, all-over hug.

Sense of Security and Containment: Being wrapped can create a feeling of safety and being held. In a world that can often feel overwhelming, this can be incredibly soothing and grounding. It's like being in a cozy, secure cocoon. This is especially helpful for people in periods of transition.

Muscle Relaxation: The gentle pressure can help relax tense muscles throughout the body. When muscles are relaxed, it can contribute to an overall feeling of calm and well-being.

Mimicking Comforting Sensations: Some believe it might subtly remind us of the comfort and security we felt as infants. While we may not consciously remember it, that feeling of being held and contained can be deeply ingrained.

Quieting the Nervous System: The feeling of being securely wrapped can help to quiet the "fight or flight" response and encourage the "rest and digest" state, which is essential for relaxation and healing.

What you can expect in a Swaddled Shavasana session:

Personalized Connection: We'll begin with a conversation to understand your physical and emotional needs as well as your intention for the practice.

Safe Experience: After our discussion, I’ll set up the space and wrap you into the swaddle. You can choose to exist however you want during your time being swaddled. Some like to rest in silence or with music, while others may choose to talk about what’s on their mind. I’m not a therapist, but I can offer a compassionate listening ear. The most beneficial aspect of the experience is the opportunity to witness yourself in silence or in speech.

In-Home Privacy: For those on the North Shore and in the Chicago area, you can experience this special experience in your home. I travel to you with all the necessary supplies.

What you need for a Swaddled Shavasana session:

A Quiet Space: Choose a spot in your home where you have enough room to comfortably lied down on the grounds with enough space for me to walk around you. A little peace and quiet will also help you relax. A clean and quiet space will help you relax.

Comfortable Clothing: Wear clothes that are comfortable to you. Remember you will be wrapped snuggly in a blanket, so total comfort is key.

Supplies: I will bring a bed sheet, weighted blanket, eye mask, eye pillow, and a portable speaker. However, you can provide any of these items if you prefer. You will need to provide your own pillow. If there are other items you’d like to incorporate into your session, just let me know.
